CED Program Overview
1:30-2:30 Lab Tour
Activity: Programming the NAO to show emotion.
The overall idea behind this is to give them a mini-research experience. The activity began with a short lecture on Ekman's basic emotions, and the students were given printouts of the research papers discussed. With this information, the students then programmed their Naos to show a basic emotion of their choice. The students creating behaviors using the Nao Choregraphe GUI, a visual programming interface that comes with the robot. There were some parts of emotional expression that were not covered by these papers, or not explained completely, and there was the challenge for the students to translate into code. They had to make some assumptions in their implementations and back them up with information from the literature. After they finished their implementations, they showed them off and discussed their code.
